Grab Your Floatie, Slip n’ Slide Tampa Bound

Get your swimsuit ready, pack your sunscreen, grab your flip-flops and your friends… and don’t forget your floatie! The 1,000 foot slip n’ slide, Slide The City, is hitting the Tampa Bay area! Can you imagine…that is the size of over 3 football fields of nothing but slippery wet vinyl to get your slide on. The buzz is Slide the City will set up the slip n’ slide at Raymond James Stadium in July.

Busting at tSlide the city - John Soliman and Associates HomeXpress Realty Inche seams with questions? How much it costs? How old do you have to be? And, won’t it hurt sliding on the concrete? We have your answers covered!

They have different wristbands that give you access to the sliding fun and pricing tiers for what the wristbands will provide:

Single Slider wristbands allow a one-time slide anytime during the day. With the purchase of a single slider wristband you receive a water gun and a mouth guard. They require that you have your own inflatable tube and if you don’t they will have them for sale. Pricing ranges from the early bird special registration of $15.00, regular registration $20.00 and late registration $25.00.

Triple Slider wristbands allow you to slide three times anytime during the day. With the purchase of the triple slider wristband you receive a inflatable tube, a mouth guard, and a water gun. Pricing ranges from the early bird special registration of $30.00, regular registration $35.00 and late registration $40.00.

VIP Slider, oh yeah the sound of that title just makes you feel important! The VIP wristbands allow you to slide as many times as you like at any time along with access to the slipn’ n’ slidn’ a whole hour before the slide opens and a whole hour after the slide closes. The purchase of the VIP wristband you receive a mouth guard, t-shirt, upgraded water gun, inflatable tube, and a trucker hat to look stylish and keep your nose from getting burned. Pricing ranges from the early bird special registration of $50.00, regular registration $60.00 and day of registration $55.00

I don't want to ride the slide Maybe you don’t want to slip n’ slide then that’s okay too, they invite you out free of charge to hang in the sun, eat, and maybe join in a water fight. Make sure to bring your water guns to soak people walking by!

If you can’t slide then you might be too old. But, they do have a few rules for riders. You must be over 46 inches tall or over 5 years old and at any age will have to sign their wavier. It’s a family friendly water party with music, food, and fun!

We had the question too, won’t that hurt being on the concrete? Don’t worry the mouth guard isn’t because of that! The whole 1000 feet are padded. To quote Slide The City “ The slide’s got more cushion than your grandpa’s orthopedic sneakers”. Now you know that is cushy!

Tampa Bay Weathers The Cold

Not sure if you have quiet noticed, but… it’s cold! Jumped in the car this morning scrambling to push the seat warmer before the frost got to my… never mind, it was to late. Looked at the temperature display after letting out a “BUUUURRRRRR” to find it reading a number that was quiet foreign to us here in the Tampa Bay, 36 degrees.Tampa Bay Sets Freezing Records - John Soliman and Associates HomeXpress Realty Inc

Go ahead Northerner’s scoff at us Floridians! If you do, then we say… keep shoveling that snow! The Tampa Bay area weathered through the cold for the past few days, last night being the coldest with some areas hitting record lows below freezing. But the Sunshine State is known for just that, Sunshine! We just aren’t use to these temperatures. We enjoy our warm winters, reason why there is such a thing called a snow bird.

The last time meteorologists registered such a chill at Tampa International Airport? Jan. 13, 2011, said  Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez. Marquez said. It was 31 degrees.

As of 5 a.m. Friday, Lakeland had broken their record for cold temperatures, coming in at 32 degrees. Tampa broke their record too, and dropped to 34- one degree lower than the record temp from 1960, per Tampa’s Fox 13.

Photo Credit to Bay News 9 - Strawberry Crops Okay after Freeze
Photo Credit to Bay News 9 – Strawberry Crops Okay after Freeze

But the silver lining in all this, the Strawberries are OK! The freezing temperatures did not harm crops at Plant City’s family-owned and operated, Wish Farms, one of the largest Florida strawberry growers. Same reports from other strawberry farmers across eastern Hillsborough County. Another plus, cold weather makes the strawberries sweeter. Which is great news and just in time for the Florida Strawberry Festival, in Plant City.

The Florida Strawberry Festival, runs Thursday, February 26, 2015 through Sunday, March 8, 2015.  11 days festival of family-fun activities including fair rides, food, performances by some big name bands – and don’t forget the strawberries!
Not to rub it in, but this weekend the Tampa Bay area temperatures will be back up into the high 70’s. Which will make the record amount of 30,300 runner’s participating in this years Gasparilla Distance Classic much happier. It’s great running weather!
