Your in France on a family vacation, you had a wonderful dinner, and your family decides to take a walk around the city. A kind Frenchman has volunteered to take a picture of your family in front of the Eiffel Tower. It’s an awesome picture with the Eiffel Tower light up brightly behind you. You post it to your FB, Instagram, Twitter, everyone likes it commenting how great it is.
You arrive home to find out that you are now your being fined for copy right infringement! Say what! Oh yes, it’s not a hoax, we have checked. Paris has warned Tourist they could be fined for taking pictures of the Eiffel Tower in the dark, because the lights are copyrighted.
France’s reason for the law, because the lights are “art” and it’s property of the artist. The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889, and is deemed public property and is free to be photographed in the daylight. But, even if it’s your own photo and you post it on your social networking sites its illegal.

Did not know that. Only time I have ever been to the Eiffel Tower at night was back on October 1995 for dinner at Jules Verne. I don’t think the lights were added until late 1999 for the millennium (2000) New Year’s Eve celebration.
